Bienvenue, 2016!
Ringing in the New Years is nothing new. You party or something resembling that (or stay in and watch Gossip Girl, tightly bounded in a robe) and make up the same resolutions you've had in mind from previous years. Like most people, I find a new year a brilliant fake refresh from a year of hell that takes a load off my back and my mind. 2015 was not that monumental, but both my senses and my horoscopes tell me that 2016 won't be too sickening.
My family and I sought out some time to just enjoy the cool weather and drive around Los Angeles to bond together and ease our minds. It was a big mistake considering that we have a two-year old boy who has recently been inducted into our little family. Many hours of dealing with the tantrums of my brother and waiting for our Italian food to be delivered led us to a calm area in Studio City. It ended up being an overlook/hiking trail for the posh and fit and there we were, inappropriately dressed, sitting perched up on the roof of our car with bowls of pastas and salad, people watching and city gazing. It was a pretty good start to the year.
Today was no different. I woke up surprisingly early to try a new cafe with my parents somewhere in Fairfax and reflected on what has past and what is coming.
Things I learned in 2015:
- It's okay to move on from things (and people). Change is simply a part of life.
- Making a "Watch when sad" playlist on YouTube really does help.
- It is never too early to take of your skin + health.
- If they don't think you're worth their time, they're not worth yours.
- When applying your perfume on your wrists, don't rub your wrists together or the scent will fade more quickly. [EDIT: this is due to the fact that it develops the scent much more quickly!!]
- Putting yourself before others is completely okay.
- Don't get piss drunk at a wedding and DON'T wake up the day of your family reunion hungover.
- So what if your neighbors hear you belt out pop songs.... you're a star☆☆☆
Oh, and a playlist of course!
- Fleetwood Mac - Never Going Back Again
- Real Estate - It's Real
- Tyler, the Creator - Find Your Wings
- Thundercat - Them Changes
- Disclosure - Magnets
- One Direction - What a Feeling
- Toro y Moi - Touch
- The Growlers - Someday
- Frank Zappa - Peaches en Regalia
- Teebs - While You Doooo
I wish you all the best. Don't forget to live to your heart's content!
