What took you so long?
Here's what I know so far.
I know you love me by the way you hover and glance. I dream of being proposed to under the moonlight - just us two. We nap together. We drive around and have pit-stops at bodegas and gaudy Americana diners. You beg me for kisses on the nose, so I plant them on your forehead just to piss you off. I know you love me. With your voice so raw and sweet, how could I help but grab you by the wrist and pull you deeper into the abyss with me? Faye Webster was right to fall in love with someone they didn't know because I'm averted to the ideas I ramble on about could be with someone that I already know; I just like to play pretend with these notions.
If I bite you, it's an invitation for you to do the same to me.
We bite each other and baby one another. We're so love-struck that it feels like peace even in the most crowded of bars and restaurants. We stand by each other in the kitchen and under moonlight all over one another, everywhere, anywhere. Music from the record player drifting in between the crevices of you and I. If only we could melt like this forever.
A wink and a smile and the land is ours.
There's a ringing in my ear and I think it's an angel whispering, "Why are you so worried about the things you can't control?" That angel doesn't know why I cross my fingers and how I ache with hope and yearn and yearn and yearn.
I can't wait for when I get to say, "What took you so long?"
